Message From President
President Message 2009
Welcome to the 14th Installation of the Rotary Club of Bugis Junction and the Rotary -ITE Student Excellence Award Presentation.

Firstly, my sincere congratulations to all the students receiving awards today. They have done well and we are proud to have these future leaders in our midst.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank all Rotarians and past Presidents of Rotary Club of Bugis Junction and in particular the President of the 2008-2009 Rotary year, Dr Tan Kok Heng, and his team for the work that they had done. Under his leadership, we had made the dreams of many children and elderly real. They have also set a firm foundation for the incoming team to build on.

We have come a long way since 1930 when the Rotary flame was kindled in Singapore. The Rotary International’s theme for the year acknowledges that the “Future of Rotary is in Your Hands”. As RI President John Kenny had said, “Each one of us is standing on the shoulders of generations of Rotarians past, and it is our responsibility to determine Rotary’s future.” It is a timely reminder that we are all an important part of the Rotary family, working in unison with the other clubs to achieve our goals and shape Rotary’s future.

Our work is even more important amidst this weak economic climate. It is key that we actively seek ways to improve the lives of people in our community and beyond. As we work through Rotary, we would be able to achieve much more than as individuals and I look forward to your support to respond to the needs of our community.

May we, in the coming year, continue to kindle the Rotary flame into a blazing bonfire.

Sincerely,

Lee Whai Yih

Project Wish 100 (Oct-Nov 2008)
Making the dreams of centenarians come true

Rotary Club of Bugis Junction (RCBJ) and the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation (TCTF), a Singapore non-profit organization, collaborated on “Project Wish 100”, held in Oct-Nov08. Aimed at centenarians (above 100 years in age) residing in retirement homes throughout Singapore, the project uniquely complemented Rotary’s theme for 2008 -2009, – Make Dreams Real – by reminding us that while children have dreams to accomplish, the elderly also have wishes to fulfill, especially in their “golden years”.
